Microsoft corp. will give Hotmail an edge over rival offerings from Yahoo inc. and Google Inc for more convenient features. The worldwide online mail service will be upgraded this coming july or august, with file previewing without opening a new window. And it will automatically sort incoming messages into different categories devoted to user’s key contacts and internet social network.
Gmail has similar file-editing gadgets, but the service lacks the capability to fully convert the Office-typed documents, which was created by Microsoft. However, the new technology will detect an email contains a photo attachment and automatically display a thumbnail of an image at the top of the documents. Hotmail will provide similar previews when it detects link to photo-sharing sites like Flickr and SmugMug or to video sharing sites YouTube and Hulu.
