MODERN LIFESTYLE IS HARMFUL TO THE SPINE

In recent years, people’s living standards and work environment has greatly improved, but due to accelerating pace of living, increase in work pressure and sedentary lifestyle, waist and back disease is growing at a remarkable rate. Four out of five adult have at least one bout of back pain sometime during their life. In fact, pain is the most common reasons for health care visits and missed work.

* 5 Harmful Habits *

  • Twisting when lifting

So many people do not bend their knees and even twist when lifting heavy objects.

  • Obesity and lack of exercise

Excess body weight, especially around the wrist, weak muscles and less flexibility can lead to back pain.

  • Smoking Tobacco

Nicotine blocks the transport of oxygen and important nutrients to the spine’s disc. Starved of oxygen, the discs are much less able to repair themselves and tend to collapse at a much earlier age than is seen in non-smokers. This degenerative disc disease can lead to chronic back pain.

  • Bad posture

Slouched shoulders, head down, knees locked places an enormous amount of stress on the spine

  • Ignoring the pain

If back pains are left untreated or allowed to progress, can lead to a severe disability.

  • Other risk factor… Aging

Bone strength and muscle elasticity decreases. Ligaments thicken and disc dry up. Low back pain can be caused by disease such as disc degeneration, lumbar stenosis and spondylolisthesis.
